Vision and Framework Objectives
The overall Vision for the site and the subsequent Objectives were set early on in the design process and has informed the development of the Masterplan. We would welcome any comments you have to ensure we have captured all matters that are important to the local community.
The Vision
The Vision for the new settlement at Barnham, Eastergate and Westergate is for a sustainable community arranged in attractive and well designed neighbourhoods which positively relate to the surrounding villages and the West Sussex landscape, delivering major benefits to the local community and environment.

Framework Masterplan Objectives
In delivering the Vision for the site, the Framework Masterplan has been prepared in line with the following Objectives:
Connectivity
Deliver a realigned A29 and an east-west link between the existing and new A29. Create a permeable network of streets, paths and cycleways. These should be integrated with existing public rights of way within the site and facilitate greater connectivity to the surrounding villages, including a pedestrian/cycle link to Barnham station. Routes should be easy to navigate to encourage active travel and connect the existing and new communities with sports, leisure and recreation spaces as well as the new local centres and community functions.
Blue and Green Infrastructure
To adopt a landscape-led approach which creates an accessible Linear Park along the Lidsey Rife for the community. A network of green links providing widely accessible public open space will be established that are intrinsically linked to the park with opportunities for enhancing biodiversity. A mix of active spaces and formal sports provision will be delivered. The masterplan will seek to enhance existing waterways and will promote sustainable drainage systems.
Placemaking
The masterplan seeks to establish a sense of place and community through the creation of urban extensions and a new vibrant place with two community-focused local centres, that complements and yet is distinct from the existing, established neighbourhoods.
In creating a place where people want to live, the Framework Masterplan should ensure that the new residential neighbourhoods are balanced with other supporting facilities, such as the Local Centre, Primary Schools and sports facilities. These should be sufficient to meet the needs of the new and existing communities and be easily accessible to all.
